Soroptimists work to improve the lives of women and girls in their communities and throughout the world. There are several award and scholarship opportunities available to help meet this mission. Over the past three years, Soroptimist International of the Twin Cities has awarded over $14,000 to local women and girls.
Women like Lashunda (2017 Live Your Dream winner), who survived domestic violence as a teenage mother. Lashunda is still overcoming adversity in the midst of financial hardship to pursue her education, while working 40 hours a week, empowering herself and her son to succeed. The award will fund her final semester classes so that she can graduate with her B.A. in criminal justice. She plans to apply to law school after that to become a civil rights lawyer.
Girls like Kassie (2017 Resilience Award winner), who supported her disabled father at home, shared the burden of financial hardship, and managing depression by channeling her energy into art and creative outlets. She plans to attend college in the fall, taking steps towards her dream of being a graphic designer.
